It's time to get moving!
Finally, it's that time of year when the outdoor temps and daylight inspire some of us to get out and get moving. I hope that my short list inspires you to hit the streets and get some artery clearing exercise! There are many things to do here in Mountlake Terrace, here are just a few: If you have not been getting exercise, then start slowly and carefully. If your concerned about whether or not exercise is safe for you, consult with your doctor.
1) Get up early on sunny days, put on some solid shoes, warm enough clothing and find a path that takes you thru your favorite neighborhoods. Just 20 - 30 minutes 3 times a week will make a big difference. If your a coffee stand regular, consider walking to see your favorite barista, and then walking home with your hot cup of joe.
2) On the weekends, take a warm-up walk to your closest set of outdoor stairs, such as the ones found at the Mountlake Terrace park n' ride or between 227th and 228th St. S.W. immediately adjacent to the west side of Interstate 5. For a more intense work-out, carry a backpack with some books to get the heart pumping. Be very careful of slippery steps and never trespass illegally.
3) At least once per week, walk to the grocery store and get just a few of the things that you need so it's easy to carry home. This will save you gas money also.
4) For the bus commuters; when you come home from work and the temps are nice and there is plenty of light, get off the bus at a different stop, one that's further from home. You can get off the bus a few stops early, or a few stops after your regular. Some of you can ride a different bus altogether and find a walk home that is just right.
5) For those of you with dogs, check out the Mountlake Terrace dog park.
LOCATION:
5303 228th Street SW
Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043
Located northeast of the Recreation Pavilion, the Off-Leash Dog Park is about three-quarters of an acre in size and positioned in the woods of Terrace Creek Park. It is completely fenced and provides a double gate system, benches, information kiosk, and waste disposal container.
6) Be sure to drink plenty of clean water. As the temps rise and our activity increases, our bodies need proper hydration.
